University Extension and its implications for sustainable development: a social, economic and environmental perspective

This study is based on bringing to debate within the academy the theoretical assumptions allied to practice on the University Extension process in three dimensions (social, economic and environmental). Was resorted to the bibliographic method, through which was established an intertextual discussion between different authors who addressed the issue under study and its application in increasingly demanding contexts, where the role of the university is essential for political decision-making at all levels. Was discussed our view on the concept of social sustainability and the precepts that justify its existence in people's daily lives, through interaction between them (community) and the university (through studies with the problems already identified and, often, with proposed resolutions).
