AI Usage Policy

1. General principles

The Orange Journal recognizes the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the production and review of academic texts. However, it emphasizes the importance of responsible authorship, academic integrity and transparency in the use of these technologies.

This policy establishes guidelines for the use of AI in content generation, manuscript writing and
the editorial process, ensuring compliance with ethical standards in scientific publication.

2. Use of AI in manuscript writing

Authors may use AI tools (such as writing assistants, grammar checkers, and research support
software), as long as their use is complementary and does not replace the creativity, critical
analysis, and originality of the researcher.

The use of generative AI for the full or substantial creation of scientific content, including the
writing of articles, interpretation of data or formulation of hypotheses, is not permitted.

Transparency: If AI has been used in the writing, authors should explicitly state this in a section of
the manuscript, specifying the tool used and its purpose. Example of declaration:

"In the preparation of this manuscript, [name of AI tool] was used for [specific tasks, such as
grammar correction or idea generation]. However, the entire content, analysis, and conclusions are
the responsibility of the authors."

3. Use of AI in peer review

Reviewers and editors can use AI tools to support plagiarism detection, style analysis, and
reference checking, but critical evaluation of articles should be performed by human experts.

The use of AI for writing peer review reports is not permitted. Reviewers must ensure that their
comments reflect original and informed analysis.

4. Use of AI in the generation of images and graphics.

The use of AI to generate supporting images, graphs and data visualizations is permitted, provided
that:

• Do not manipulate images in a misleading manner.
• The use of AI in visual production is declared.
• The originality and accuracy of the graphic representations are guaranteed.

5. Responsibility and authorship

AI tools cannot be considered authors of an article. Authorship in the Orange Journal must be by
human researchers who have made significant intellectual contributions.

Authors assume full responsibility for AI-generated content, including possible errors, biases or
misinterpretations.

In case of detection of AI misuse (such as text generation without human supervision or data manipulation), the journal may reject the manuscript or take disciplinary action in accordance with
its editorial ethics policy.

6. Final considerations

Orange Journal reserves the right to update this policy as AI technologies and their implications for
academic publishing evolve.

Authors and reviewers are advised to keep informed about the ethical use of AI in scientific
research, following the guidelines of organizations such as COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), EASE (European Association of Science Editors) y Elsevier.
